They adhere to the FDA's medical device regulations for 'over-the-counter' hearing aids, allowing you to purchase them directly from us without needing a prescription. So you don't need to spend a lot of time on an audiologist appointment. 3. Are they amplifiers or hearing aids?
The structure of amplifiers is very simple. This simple structure makes it unable to avoid amplifying sounds across all frequency ranges, often accompanied by noise and whistling. Prolonged use of amplifiers can lead to the brain adapting to noisy environments, resulting in fatigue of the auditory nerves and irreversible neural hearing damage.
All DoHo™ hearing aids are genuine hearing aids. With the assistance of DSP chips and 24 channels for sound segmentation processing, Combined with our noise reduction and whistling suppression technology, they provide the clear and harmonious sound that you really need.
4. Do I need a hearing test? Will they be suitable for me?
As an over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid, you can use our devices directly as long as you meet the conditions mentioned in Question 1, without the need for a hearing test.
While hearing tests can provide more accurate frequency settings for hearing aids, the majority of people's hearing loss frequencies fall between 500 and 3500 Hertz, which are also the preset frequencies of the DoHo™ PRO SERIES. In May 2023, the DoHo customer service department conducted telephone interviews with 1000 customers who had purchased this hearing aid, and 95% of them believed that the PRO series had truly helped them. The remaining 5% of customers received a full refund after returning the hearing aids. This is why we offer a 45-day refund guarantee - to find the right customers for whom the PRO SERIES is truly suitable. While it may not be suitable for everyone, it provides an opportunity for people to purchase hearing aids at an affordable price by avoiding the involvement of audiologists.
5. Why is its price so low? Is it really better than a $5000 AUD hearing aid?
Before 2020, DoHo™ had two offline hearing clinics. Unfortunately or fortunately, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to close them and shift to online sales. Previously, the average pricing for our hearing aids was $5000 AUD. This high pricing was mainly driven by the expensive rent of the physical stores, audiologists' salaries, and fixed equipment costs, which were necessary for the normal operation of the clinics.
However, everything changed after 2020 when we transitioned to online sales. This allowed us to eliminate the hefty costs associated with physical stores, providing a significant pricing advantage. As a result, customers now have the opportunity to purchase the same hearing aids that were previously priced at $5000 AUD for just a few hundred dollars.
Additionally, we invested more funds into research and development led by Dr. Glenville, focusing on upgrading and developing new models based on previous hearing aid models. This led to the launch of DoHo™ITE-PRO and RIC-PRO. Therefore, we are confident that DoHo's hearing aids offer advantages in both price and performance compared to other hearing aids in the market.

In Audiology, the term "mild" is only used in comparison to not being able to hear at all. And because hearing loss occurs gradually — sometimes over decades — you may not even realize how bad it is. So even if you only have mild hearing loss, hearing aids can make a significant difference in your quality of life. Check the first question on our FAQ page. to see if you are experiencing the kinds of symptoms which the FDA has indicated would be appropriate for hearing aids like ours.
Research has also revealed that, over time, hearing loss can be associated with depression, cognitive decline, and an impact on work performance, among other issues.Learn more about hearing loss and associated comorbidities. If left untreated, hearing fatigue, caused by straining to hear people talk, can also be a significant cause of headaches, exhaustion, and social isolation. But the sooner you address your hearing loss, the more likely you'll avoid these issues.
13. Why does it take some time to fully adapt to new hearing aids?
Wearing new hearing aids and needing time to adapt is a normal phenomenon. This is because when you start using hearing aids, your brain needs to adapt to new auditory input and processing. Here are some possible reasons for the adaptation period:
- New sound perception: Hearing aids may allow you to hear sounds that you were previously unable to perceive, requiring time to adapt to this new auditory input.
- Adjusting to the right volume: In the initial stages, continuous adjustment of the hearing aid volume may be needed to find the level that suits your hearing needs.
- Comfort and ear adaptation: It may take some time to adapt to the contact between the hearing aids and your ears, ensuring that wearing them feels comfortable.
- Sound processing and filtering: Hearing aids often come equipped with sound processing technology, and it may take time to adapt to the filtering and adjustments made by these technologies.
- Speech recognition and auditory training: Hearing aids may require time to adapt to recognizing and processing speech, as well as assisting the brain in better understanding sounds in various environments.
The length of the adaptation period varies from individual to individual, typically ranging from a few days to a few weeks. Patience and consistent use are key during the adaptation period.
